Raiders Weekend Preview

The Georgetown Raiders are back in action this weekend with 2 games on the slate. Here’s what you need to know.

Tonight, the Raiders are in Burlington at Central Arena at 7:30PM for another matchup with bitter rival, the Burlington Cougars. This is the third meeting of the season for these clubs; Georgetown has taken all 3 meetings, with the latest being a 2-1 win on November 10th. Heading into the game, the Raiders sit at 17-10-0-4, good for 38 points and 4th in the West.  Burlington sits at 13-12-0-6, good for 32 points and 7th in the West. Expect a closely-contested battle tonight as both teams realize the importance of the points up for grabs. Leading scorer for the Raiders is Quinn Tavares, with 16 goals and 40 points this season. For the Cougars, it is Justin Legault who owns such honours, posting 17 goals and 34 points. The Raiders are 6-3-1-0 in their last 10, while Burlington is 5-4-1-0. With both teams in similar form and coming off a loss respectively, look for scoring early and often from your Raiders to try and build a lead. Staying out of the penalty box will be key for the Raiders, as Burlington owns a 25% effective powerplay. It should be another exciting instalment of the Raiders/Cougars rivalry. Make sure you tune in at 7:30PM tonight on flohockey.tv for the action!

Tomorrow, Dec. 9th at 5:30PM, the Raiders return home to take on the Lindsay Muskies in our annual Teddy Bear Toss game. Please bring new or gently used Teddy Bears or stuffed animals to tomorrow’s game. When the Raiders score their first goal of the game, throw your bear on the ice! Bears and toys will be gathered from the ice and transported by Georgetown Chevrolet Buick GMC to the Halton Regional Police Service and Tiger Jeet Singh Foundation Christmas Drive!

Heading into the game, this is the first meeting of the season for these 2 clubs. Lindsay sits at 16-10-1-3, good for 36 points and 6th in the East; another close-in-the-standings matchup for your Raiders. Lindsay is also riding a 5 game winning streak heading into the game, something the Raiders will be eager to snap. Leading scorer for the Muskies is rookie Nate Taylor, with 7 goals and 19 points in 29 games this season. Lindsay doesn’t score many goals, as they are tied for last in the East with just 76 goals on the season. They have also only allowed 82, meaning they have a focus on defence and playing a shutdown style of hockey. This is translating into points and wins, as the Muskies are 7-0-1-0 in their last 8 games. Georgetown plays a contrasting style of high octane offense. Which style will prevail is the question. Georgetown will look to score on the powerplay and build a lead early in the game. It will be an exciting game, highlighted by our Teddy Bear Toss. Doors and the Booster Club open at 5PM; puck drop is at 5:30PM. If you can’t make the game, tune in on flohockey.tv!
