It’s Friday, Raider Nation, and you know what that means: it’s time for another Weekend Preview for the Georgetown Raiders.

Saturday, February 10th at 7:30PM, your Raiders will travel to Westwood Arena in Toronto for our fourth meeting of the season with the Toronto Patriots. Presently, the Raiders maintain a 1-1-1-0 record against the Pats this season. The most recent meeting of these clubs was a 4-3 Raiders victory coming on January 17th, 2024 in Georgetown.

Heading into the game, the Patriots hold a 21-20-3-3 record, good for 48 points on the season and eighth place in the West Conference. In their last nine games, the Pats have gone 4-4-1-0 and are coming off a 2-1 win at Caledon on February 8th. Toronto’s record at home this season is 11-9-0-0. The Pats are 10.1% effective on the power play at home, while 84.15% effective on the penalty kill. Leading scorer for the Patriots this season is Matthew Manza (24-19-43).

Georgetown is currently riding a three game winning streak, coming off an impressive 3-2 regulation with against Milton at home on February 7th. The Raiders hold a 24-18-1-4 record, good for 53 points and sole possession of fifth in the West. The Raiders are only four points back of Buffalo for fourth spot. In their last nine games, GTown holds a 5-4-0-0 record, riding the aforementioned three game winning streak. On the road this year, Georgetown has gone 9-12-2-0 in 23 games. Power play percentage away from home this year has been 17.07%, while the penalty kill sits at 75.76% effective. Leading scorer for your Raiders is forward Quinn Tavares (21-33-54).

For the Raiders, this is another must-win game. Continuing the momentum of the current winning streak is important. Beating a team behind you in the standings is crucial. In the first three matchups of the two clubs this year, Georgetown is averaging scoring 4.6 goals a game. Toronto is averaging scoring five goals per game. The Raiders need to continue this pace of scoring, and not allow as many good chances from Toronto. Tightening up the defensive zone and not allowing sustained pressure from a good Patriots attack is key to success. Staying disciplined and not taking penalties is something that allows GTown to win games. However, if the game ends up following the trend of being a high-scoring affair, GTown has the fire power to score more than the opponent. However, a solid defensive effort should be at the forefront of the minds of the Raiders, taking examples from a 2-0 win against MISS and a 3-2 win against MIL last week.

Another big game for the Raiders as the push for the postseason is on. Tune into the action on flohockey.tv at 7:30PM on Saturday, February 10th!
