Happy Friday, Georgetown Faithful! We’ve got two matches on the docket for this weekend; here’s what you need to know.
Friday, January 26th, at 7:30PM, the Raiders will be in Milton at the Milton Memorial Arena for another instalment of the Battle of North Halton with the rival Menace. This will mark the third meeting of the season for the clubs, with Milton taking the first two contests, both in regulation.
Coming into the game, Milton is 7-3-0-0 in their last 10 games. Their season record is 29-9-2-0, good for 2nd in the West Conference with 60 points. Milton is certainly a team that Georgetown wants to beat not only from a rivalry aspect, but to prove that they can compete with teams ahead of them in the standings currently. Milton has an impressive +56 goal differential on the season, something GTown looks to put a dent in Friday night. Leading scorer for the Menace is Connor Driscoll with 20 goals and 38 assists this season. Milton is coming off a 3-2 loss vs. Marham on January 21st and will be looking to get back on track – Georgetown will be ready.
The Raiders own a record of 21-16-0-4 on the year, good for 6th place in the West. GTown is 4-6-0-0 in their last 10, but is coming off an important 3-2 win over Mississauga on January 20th. Keeping the momentum going with a big win over a cross-town rival is just what Georgetown looks to do Friday night. Leading scorer for the Raiders is Quinn Tavares with 19 goals and 32 assists in 51 games.
An important game to say the least for Georgetown. Based on their goal differential, Milton likes to score goals. However, so does Georgetown, with 150 scored so far. A key to victory for the Raiders will be playing a structured defensive game and keeping Milton off the powerplay. Keeping the Menace attack to the perimeter of the zone and not allowing many clean shots on net should stifle the attack. Alternatively, Georgetown needs to get on the scoresheet quickly and often. A common theme I’ve written about this year, but it rings true. Georgetown needs to score. It should be a fantastic game Friday night in Milton. Tune in at 7:30PM on flohockey.tv.
Saturday, January 27th and 7:30PM, the Raiders return home to host the Leamington Flyers at Alcott Arena for Halton Twisters Night presented by Canadian Tire. This will be the third meeting of the season for the clubs, with a win apiece going to each so far.
Heading into the contest, the Flyers hold a record of 28-10-4-0, good for third in the West and 60 points – a tie with Milton. In their last 10 contests, Milton is 9-1-0-0 and currently riding a six game winning streak. Their last game was January 25th against Toronto – a 4-0 shutout win. Georgetown is faced with yet another opportunity to play a good team ahead of them in the standings. This game, along with Friday @ Milton, could prove to be two statement games for the club. They say that if you want to be the the best, you have to beat the best; Georgetown has a great chance to do just that this weekend.
A key for Georgetown to win would be again to play a structured, defensive game. Being responsible in their own zone and not giving the Flyers many odd man rushes or Grade A scoring chances is important. The Flyers like to score goals, holding a +56 goal differential on the year. Keeping to from being easy for the Flyers to do is key. As well, Georgetown needs to continue to score in bunches and capitalize on opportunities presented. As mentioned, a great test for your Raiders this weekend.
Doors open at 7PM at Alcott Arena for a 7:30PM puck drop for Halton Twisters Night presented by Canadian Tire. Tickets are $15.00 at the door. We need your support Saturday night, Raider Nation!
