The Georgetown Raiders unfortunately dropped a closely fought contest this past Wednesday, losing 2-1 in double overtime to the Wellington Dukes at the Alcott. In an extremely impressive effort, Raiders goalie Finn Wilson stopped 59 of 61 Wellington shots on net in the loss. Dimitri-Alexander Tzaferis scored for Wellington to give the Dukes a 1-0 lead in the second period before Quinn Tavares tied the game up for the Raiders halfway through the third. The first overtime solved nothing, so double OT is where this contest headed and was settled. Ethan Quick scored at the 1:30 mark into the frame. For Georgetown, picking up another point is a positive light to take from this contest. As well, Finn Wilson stopping 59 shots is a massive plus. An important point added to the bank, if nothing else.
Here is the Raiders outlook for this weekend’s action. Saturday, Oct. 28 at 7:30PM the Brantford 99ers roll into Georgetown for a highly contested match. The Raiders will be looking for revenge for the first meeting of the season on Sept. 21 that Brantford took in overtime, 5-4. As well, the Raiders will be looking to get back on track after the tough double OT loss to Wellington mentioned above. Coming into the game, the Raiders sit 4th in the western conference with 20 points and a 9-5-0-2 record. Brantford sits at 9th in the western conference with 14 points and a 7-9-0-0 record. Leading scorer for the Raiders is Quinn Tavares, with 22 points in 17 games played. For Brantford, Evan Kojokaro holds the scoring lead with 20 points in 16 games played. This matchup could quickly turn into a rivalry this season, so you won’t want to miss the action. Tickets are $15.00 at the door of the Alcott. Puck drop is at 7:30PM! If you can’t make the game, tune in on flohockey.tv.
Sunday night, the Raiders head to the Scotiabank Pond for an inter-conference battle with the Jr. Canadiens. Heading into the game, the Canadiens have dropped their previous two contests to Markham and Lindsay, respectively. Toronto sits in a tie for 7th place in the eastern conference with 18 points and a 8-7-0-2 record. Similarly to the Wellington game, this is a close matchup for the Raiders standings-wise, albeit for the opposing conferences. Toronto’s top scorer is Luc Malkhassian with 15 points on the season. Georgetown boasts a 5-3-1-0 record on the road this season and would like to add to that Sunday night. Toronto’s special teams could be an area to watch for, as they have a good power play and penalty kill so far this season. With two big points up for grabs, expect an A game from your Raiders.
