The Georgetown Raiders finished a busy week of OJHL action last night, playing their fourth game in six days.
Starting last Tuesday, September 26, the OJHL’s Governors Showcase kicked off in Buffalo, NY, at the home of the Jr. Sabres: the LECOM Harborcenter. The Raiders began the Showcase against the Burlington Cougars, winning that affair 2-1 in overtime. Forward Brandon Kakei scored both Raiders goals including the game winner. Goaltender Finn Wilson was near perfection in the match, stopping 19/20 shots on net for the Raiders in the victory. The Cougars lone goal was scored by forward Daniil Kononov.
Thursday, September 28 saw the Raiders close out their 2023 Showcase with a late night match against the Oakville Blades. The Blades ultimately took the contest 4-2 in regulation. Raiders goal scorers included Justin Huynh with his first career OJHL goal, and Luke Tuin, scoring his second goal of the year. Raiders goaltender Finn Marshall was peppered with 48 shots on net, stopping 45 in an incredible effort. Blades goalscorers included Jacob Crisp, Silas Crawford, Gleb Akimov, and Luke Johnston with an empty net goal.
Saturday, September 30 was the Raiders first home game since September 16th, 2023. Safe to say the Raider faithful was excited to see their team back at home, and the Raiders did not disappoint. Georgetown managed 8 goals in an 8-3 win. Goaltender Finn Wilson stopped 29 or 32 Chargers shots in the victory. Raiders forward Niko Krmpotic and Cayden Smith both registered their first OJHL goals in the contest.
And, finally, Sunday, October 1 saw the Raiders finish this busy week with a matchup agains the Jr. Sabres back in Buffalo. This game marks three games in six days in Buffalo. The Raiders ultimately fell to the Sabres 5-2. Buffalo lead 3-1 entering the third period before Kristian Lamanna gave Georgetown a spark with his 5th goal of the season at the 9:10 mark. Buffalo secured two empty net goals in the dying minutes of the period, locking up the 2 points for that evening’s affair. Raiders goaltender Finn Marshall stopped 33/36 shots in the loss.
