The Georgetown Raiders were successful in both efforts this past weekend, taking 4 points from 2 wins against Leamington and Burlington.

Thursday night in Leamington, the Raiders managed a close 2-1 win over the Flyers. Maksim Tugolukov and the recently acquired Carson Lloyd both scored their first goals of the season in the victory. This was a very close game the whole way, with Raiders goaltender Finn Wilson stopping 30/31 shots in the victory. The Raiders got into some penalty trouble in the third period with 3 minor penalties in the frame. However, the Raiders managed to kill all 3 penalties in impressive fashion, halting the Flyers’ attack on all occasions. Flyers forward Darian Anderson scored his 6th goal of the season for the lone tally for Leamington in the contest. This was a big momentum win for the Raiders, who managed to take 2 valuable points from a team directly next to them in the standings.

The momentum would carry into Saturday when the Raiders returned home to face the bitter rival Burlington Cougars in a 5:30PM affair at the Alcott. The Raiders started a little slow in the first period as Burlington took a 2-0 lead with 10 minutes remaining. Gabriel Ciarallo cut the deficit to 1 with 20 second remaining in the period. The Raiders wouldn’t look back from there, exploding for 5 goals in the second period. Quinn Tavares, Maksim Tugolukov, Kaleb Nelson, Aaron Andrade, and Josh Colosimo each recorded tallies in the frame. Colosimo’s tuck was his first career OJHL goal. Burlington would score one more in the third to make this a 6-3 Raiders victory. Another important win over a big rival. Raiders goalie Finn Marshall stopped 32/35 Burlington shots in the win.

After this weekend’s action, the Raiders now sit 4th in the OJHL’s Western Conference with 20 points. With 3 more games this week, the Raiders have more opportunity to continue this momentum and pick up more points. Stay tuned for the preview article.
