The 2024 OJHL All Star Celebration break has concluded and your Raiders are ready to get back on the ice. Let’s get dialled in for our Wednesday, January 17th matchup with the Toronto Patriots.
Heading into the game, the Patriots are the winners of the first two meetings of the clubs this season, with the latest being a 7-5 win in Toronto on December 23, 2023. Toronto owns a 17-16-2-0 record on the season, while Georgetown sits at 19-15-4-0 on the year. Both clubs are in minor slumps in their last few games, with Toronto at 2-6-1-0, Georgetown at 3-6-1-0. The Raiders post an impressive 12-5-2-0 record at home while Toronto is 8-9-2-0 on the road this year. Georgetown claims 5th in the West with 42 points, Toronto claims 8th in the same conference at 38 points. This is a massive chance for Georgetown to keep climbing higher in the standings and push opponents on their heels down the ladder a little further. It is shaping up to be a tight finish, with 6 teams inside of 14 points of each other from 3rd through 8th place in the conference.
The Patriots leading scorer is Dylan Edwards, who has 11-24–35 this season. Georgetown’s Quinn Tavares is the leading scorer for the club with 19 goals and 28 assists this season. One area to note for the Patriots is their penalty kill on the road this season, which sits at 76%. Matching this up against Georgetown’s nearly 60% successful powerplay at home should produce entertaining hockey. Georgetown needs to use their scoring-in-bunches mindset to push Toronto down early and build a lead.
