Your Raiders are back in action this weekend with two games on tap. Here’s what you need to know.
Tonight, January 19, the Raiders take a trip down the highway to face the Oakville Blades. This will be the fourth meeting of the season for these two clubs, with Georgetown leading the season series at 2-1-0-0. The last meeting was on Dec. 16, where the Raiders prevailed 4-2.
Heading into the game, the Blades sit at 19-14-1-2, good for 41 points and 6th place in the OJHL’s Western Conference. Georgetown occupies 5th place in the conference, with a record of 20-15-0-4, valid for 44 points. Oakville’s record in their last 10 games is 4-6-0-0, identical to that of the Raiders. I have said this a good amount recently, and I’ll continue to: this game poses a massive opportunity for Georgetown to get a leg-up on a rival and the club on their heels in the standings. This will be a common theme down the stretch for Georgetown. The Jr. Sabres sit in 4th with 52 points; GTown needs all the wins they can muster to overtake and climb in the standings. Oakville only has 1 win since January 6th, so this is a great opportunity for Georgetown to continue the momentum generated from their 4-3 overtime win on Wednesday night. Leading scorer for the Blades is Luke Johnson, who has 15 goals and 25 assists this season. Quinn Tavares owns the same honour for your Raiders, with 19 goals and 28 assists on the year.
An important game, to say the least. This will be the second contest where General Manager Mike Dukeshire’s new trade deadline acquisitions can be seen in action. Tune into the match tonight, January 19th at 7PM on flohockey.tv.
Saturday, January 20th at 7:45PM, the Raiders will finish the back portion of the road trip in Mississauga against the Chargers. This will mark the third meeting of the clubs this year, with GTown owning a 2-0-0-0 record, winning 8-3 on September 30 and 3-0 on October 8. Mississauga has struggled this season, posting a 4-34-3-0 record for 11 points and 12th place in the West. They are 1-8-1-0 in their last 10 contests. Leading scorer for the Chargers this year is Colin Crowley, scoring 10 goals and 10 assists for 20 points.
Despite their struggles in the standings, GTown must not take this game lightly and must command the puck from the beginning to end of the game. Ensuring that the club heads back to Georgetown with 2 points is crucial. A common attribute for your Raiders is scoring in bunches, which will be key to stifling the attack of the Chargers early. Georgetown can manage a lead well, but building to this point is key. Mississauga is particularly good on the penalty kill at home this season, with a success rate of just north of 75%, a number Georgetown will look to knock down a few points by the end of the contest.
You can tune into this contest Saturday, January 20th at 7:45PM on flohockey.tv.
