The Georgetown Raiders came up a bit short in last night’s OJHL action, falling 4-2 to the Cobourg Cougars at home at Alcott Arena.

The Cougars kicked off the scoring with a powerplay goal early in the first period to take a 1-0 lead into the first intermission. That would be the only tally until Cobourg added to their lead in the final frame, taking a 2-0 advantage. The Raiders came roaring back to tie the match at 2 apiece; goals from Braeden O’Keefe and Quinn Tavares tied this one up. However, unfortunately a back-breaker goal was scored by Cobourg with under 2 minutes left in the third period that proved to be the game winner. The Cougars added an empty net goal to secure a 4-2 victory. Raiders netminder Finn Marshall stopped 31/34 shots in the loss. Despite the score, the Raiders played well in this game, with 41 shots on the opposing net and good defence. After this game, the Raiders’ record sits at 16-9-0-3 with 35 points, still in a tie with Leamington for 3rd in the West.

Moving into the preview of the weekend’s action, we begin Friday, Dec. 1 at 7PM with the Raiders on the road in Collingwood to face the Blues.

Heading into this game, the Blues hold an impressive 25-3-0-0 record. However, one of those losses came at the hands of your Raiders, who beat Collingwood at the Alcott 5-3 on November 4th. The leading scorer for the Blues is Dylan Hudon, with 18 goals and 43 points so far this season. Georgetown will have to be mindful of the Blues’ special teams. Collingwood owns an 52% success rate on the powerplay this season, and an 84% success rate on the penalty kill. Staying out of the box will be key to a GTown win. Your Raiders have won 6 of their last 8 games, while the Blues hold a 7 game winning streak heading into the contest, setting this one up for a clash of two teams playing good hockey. Leading scorer for your Raiders is Quinn Tavares, who has 13 goals and 37 points this season. Your Raiders will be up to the task and look to take down the mighty Blues Friday at 7PM; make sure you tune in on flohockeyt.tv; you won’t want to miss the action!

Saturday, Dec. 2 at 5:30PM, the Raiders return home to face the Caledon Admirals at Alcott Arena.

This will mark the third meeting of the season for these two clubs, with Georgetown taking the first two wins 6-3 and 7-1, respectively. The Admirals own a 5-16-1-4 record this season, sitting in 11th place in the West with 15 points. They are 3-6-0-0 in their last 10 games, and look to rebound after a tough 9-1 loss at Burlington on November 24th. Leading scorer for the Admirals is Deandres de Jesus, with 18 points this season. A key to victory for the Raiders will be the fact that Caledon has a 65% penalty kill on the year. If the Raiders can manage to convert on the powerplay, their chances of winning will be increased heavily. Expect another high flying offensive game from you Raiders Saturday; GTown has scored 13 goals in the first two meetings combined against Caledon this season. Make sure you head to Alcott Arena on Saturday to catch the action. The Booster Club will be open for alcohol sales beginning at 5PM with puck drop at 5:30PM. Tickets are $15.00 at the door.
