What a weekend it was for the Raiders!

Saturday, Nov. 4, Georgetown welcomed the Collingwood Blues to Alcott Arena for their first meeting of the season. Heading into this game, Collingwood claimed first place in the western conference with only 2 losses on the season, at 18-2-0-0. Both of Collingwood’s losses came at home, meaning the team was unbeaten on the road this season. The Raiders were up for the challenge. Collingwood took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission via a shorthanded goal. Braeden O’Keefe tied the game at 1, before Collingwood scored to lead 2-1 heading into the third. The Raiders exploded out of the 2nd intermission, scoring 3 goals in the first 7 minutes of play in the third frame. Collingwood scored to make it 4-3 for the majority of the third. The Raiders held off a strong Collingwood attack for the remainder of the period, where it was Aaron Andrade scoring the empty net goal to complete his hat trick and give the Raiders a 5-3 win on home ice. To take down the best team in the conference is impressive, but to take down the best team by handing them their first road loss is even more so incredible. Hats off to the Raiders for a gutsy performance Saturday night. Raider faithful was in strong attendance at Alcott Arena to witness the victory. Goaltender Finn Marshall stopped 37/40 shots in the win for Georgetown.

Coming off a big win Saturday night, the Raiders headed to the Herbert Carnegie Memorial Arena in Toronto for a battle with the North York Rangers Sunday afternoon. The Raiders managed to take care of business with a 5-4 victory in regulation. Leading 3-1 after the first period, Georgetown managed to take a 4-2 lead into the second intermission. The Rangers added 2 goals in the third period to make this a close game, but ultimately Finn Wilson stood tall in net for Georgetown and guided the Raiders to a 2nd victory in as many days. Forward Aaron Andrade scored his 4th goal in 2 days in the win, with Jack Guvenal, Carter Real, Teddy Puccini, and Carson Lloyd helping GTown on the scoresheet. Finn Wilson recorded 26 saves on 30 shots in the victory. The Raiders scored an impressive 46 shots on goal in the win.

After this weekend’s great results, the Raiders now sit at 4th in the western conference with a 12-7-0-3 record in 22 games played. Georgetown has two matches scheduled for this week; Friday, Nov. 10 sees an away game at heated rivals, the Burlington Cougars, while Saturday, Nov. 11 sees the Raiders welcome the Niagara Falls Canucks to Alcott Arena for the first time this season. Stay tuned for the preview article coming later in this week.
