The Georgetown Raiders went .500 over this past weekend in OJHL regular season action.
Saturday, Oct. 28 saw the Raiders take on the Brantford 99ers at home at Alcott Arena. The Raiders looked to rebound from a tough 2-1 OT loss to Wellington on October 25, and certainly did accomplish just that. After a scoreless first period, Georgetown saw goals from Aaron Andrade, Carson Lloyd, and Carter Real in the season to take 3-1 lead into the second intermission. Brandon Kakei and Teddy Puccini scored a goal apiece in the third to give the Raiders a 5-1 win on home ice. Finn Marshall stopped 35/36 Brantford shots in the contest, finishing with a .972 SV% and a victory. This contest was a chippy affair with the two squads combining for 94 penalty minutes in the game, most of which occurring with 45 seconds to go in the third period as a rather large scrum occurred with several players sent to the box. The Raiders scored one power play goal during the game. For Georgetown, an important win on home ice in decisive fashion.
Sunday, Oct. 29, the Raiders made the trip to the Scotiabank Pond for a battle with the Jr. Canadiens. Heading into the game the Raiders looked to continue the momentum generated from the previous night’s win on home ice. That did not happen, as Toronto jumped to a 5-0 lead quickly in the first period. The game ended with an 8-2 score for the Canadiens. One positive to take from last night was that Raiders AP player Owen Bruining scored his first career OJHL goal in his first career OJHL game! You can check out the highlight here. Bruining was called up from the Barrie Colts U18 AAA squad, where he has 16 points in 12 games this season. An incredible accomplishment to score in your first game. Congrats, Owen!
The Raiders have three games on the schedule for the coming week; stay tuned for the preview article.
